 Reflection #1

Speaking as One: Group Communications

I would have never thought id be extremly engaged and egar to learn more and more about each of the presentations. I am going to give a breif overview on all the amazing things that were presented and taught. The chapters that were assigned to the three groups were Chapters 3, 9, and 10 which where Intercultural Communications, Communicating in Groups, and lastly Leadership and Problem Solving. Each one of these chapters were assigned to the groups allowing a deeper dive into the true meaning and value behind the message of the chapter.

Chapter 9: Communicating in Groups

Once this presentation began, I already had such a good feeling about it. The introduction was super clear and brought me excitement to learn more. It truely keept me engaged. Once the presentation began, I knew it was going to be a good topic to learn, beacause it relates so much to our daily lives regarding how communication is key to success.

There was so much said that stuck onto me, making me nod my head in agreement, saying "Wow ive never thought about that". The key ideas taken away from the presentation and topic are identifying different types if groups, how to describe characteristics of healthy groups, explaining the stages through which groups develop, and lastly employing strategies to manage group conflict effectively.

Not only was I listening, but I was writing down lots of notes that were meaningfull to mylife and relatable to real situations. Having clear communications is one of the most important transmitions of information in human life. One point that was made and super true was how communication isnt done properly if one person does all the work. Healthy communication groups work fairly, listen to each other, and celebrate wins together. Everything about this presentation was clear, teachable, and much life advice.

Chapter 3: Intercultural Communications

Chapter three was assigned to my group. Reading and researching about different ways cultues communicate, taught me how important this topic is. As my group presented, I noticed how well and clear everything came out and was said. We had our slides in order of which each chapter was in sequence.

Between the diiferent cultues, many people don't truly see and understand the depth is within these cultures. For example, race, ethnicity, and religon. These things are all different through all cultures, as that was deeply explained during our presentation.

Within Intercultural communications, is the cultural difference. Understanding individualism and collectivism, help differentiate the countries lifestyle and ways of communicating.

Chapter 10: Group Leadership and Problem Solving

This chapter really caught all my attention because of how true and real it is. Making decisions that lead to positive outcomes comes with good leadership and problem solving. Something said during the presentation was " A good leader identifies and addresses issues proactively fostering collaboration and innovation to achieve optimal outcomes. This stuck on to me because many people who call themselves a leader dont always carry that.

How can you describe your problems?

  • Define the problem
  • Explore the options
  • Demonstrate your skills

I love how there are so many different stuctures to this topic and chapter. This presentation was my favorite and was presented so nicely by its group. Towards the conclution, the presentation finished and I felt full. The knowleadge was so well taught.
